If you want Tibet's two signature experiences in one trip, this is it: the north face of Everest and the sacred high lake of Namtso, bookending a full tour of the cultural plateau. Ten days gives the itinerary room to breathe, with proper acclimatization and a gentler rhythm than the eight-day Everest run.
You cover Lhasa's great sights, the southern road past Yamdrok Lake and the monasteries of Gyantse and Shigatse, a night beneath Everest at Rongbuk, and then, after a recovery day back in Lhasa, a final overnight on the shore of Namtso at 4,718m. It is the most complete way to see central and northern Tibet without committing to the long western road to Kailash.

Lhasa to Shigatse via Yamdrok Lake and Gyantse
Cross the Gampa La (4,790m) for the Yamdrok Lake overlook, pass the Karola Glacier, and visit the Kumbum in Gyantse before reaching Shigatse for the night.

Shigatse to Everest Base Camp via Gawu La
Tour Tashilhunpo Monastery, then drive south over the Gawu La (5,198m) to the Rongbuk valley for sunset on Everest's north face (around 5,150m). Overnight in the area.

Everest sunrise, return to Shigatse
Sunrise on Everest, then drive back north to Shigatse for a comfortable night at lower altitude.

Return to Lhasa along the Friendship Highway beside the Yarlung Tsangpo. Arrive in the afternoon with a free evening to rest.

Lhasa to Namtso Lake via Lhakpa La
Drive north past Yangpachen and over the Lhakpa La pass (about 5,190m) to the Tashi Dor peninsula on Namtso Lake. Afternoon to walk the headland and watch sunset over the water. Overnight at the lake in basic accommodation.

Namtso sunrise, return to Lhasa
Sunrise at the lake for early risers, then drive back across the plateau to Lhasa. Afternoon free for last-minute shopping or rest.
